Why I am not a christian

Note: Non-literalist christians be sure to read the disclaimer!

Frankly, why should I? I've yet to meet anyone who can give me a good reason to reconvert to that cult... or for that matter, any reason at all that has not been debunked countless times ago. Let's examine some common “arguments” presented to me on a regular basis, shall we?

  1. “Don't you want to be saved?”

    From what, puh-leeeease?
I don't believe in your gawd, your jebus, your satan, your heaven and your hell. In other words, if you want to claim that there's some horned black guy who wants to roast me, present evidence for his existence. Until and unless you do that, don't expect me to consider your weird proposal.

  2. “Don't you want to live forever?”

Nothing and no one will exist forever. Live with it. Or, if you are so convinced that you have The Truth(TM), feel free to present evidence for your claims. No PRATTs (points refuted a thousand times) please.

  3. “Don't you want to know True Love, the love of Jesus?”

First, it's more than unlikely that your jebus ever really existed. All “evidence” I've been shown so far was nonsense, and painfully obvious nonsense at that. And even if he existed, so what? So there was a radical wandering preacher somewhere in Judea. Big deal. There were many such persons in all places at all times, why should I consider him to be someone special?
And you guessed it: If you want to convince me that he was something more, present non-PRATT evidence.

  4. “How can you live without any purpose in life, without knowing Jesus?”

This may come as a surprise to you... you may not even be able or willing to believe it... but even atheists see a purpose in life, and did I mention already that I'm no atheist? Oh wait, indeed I didn't. So there, no, I'm not an atheist. Does that confuse you? Does that present a “does not compute” in your nice simple little black-or-white world? If so, chances are that you are one of the moronic fundamentalists who currently taint the world, and you can kiss my (self-censored).
As it were, my purpose in life can be roughly summed up as “Leave this world a better place than it was before I came around”. I may not be able to do that much to improve our little planet, but what I can do, I do. And I do not need any book to tell me what I have to do here. If you need one, you better learn to think for yourself.

  5. “How can human society function without the bible as a moral compass? Without it society will fall apart in chaos!”

No it won't. In fact, consider this and think twice before you repeat your claim:
The 4th reich (that's how I call the US as long as shrubbenführer Bush is in power, for obvious reasons) is the most zealous, most fanatical nation in western civilization. If the bible was a useful moral compass, this should be obvious by comparing the US with, say, France, Germany, and the rest of Europe. Yet what do we find? Murder... rape... generic violence... racism... misogynism... divorces... for some strange reasons, the US lead in all the statistics I've ever seen. Oh, and to refer to current events, “we Europeans” did not build torture camps in half the world. If anything, the bible is obviously a corrosive agent destroying morals and ethics.

  6. “How can you deny the bible, the only scientifically accurate religious book in the world?”

Or so the legend goes. Pardon me, but... talking snakes and donkeys? A scientifically impossible world-wide flood? A flat earth on pillars?

    Any more questions?

  7. “The bible is the only consistent religious book in the world – this proves that it comes from god almighty!”

Consistent? Only if you twist, fold, push and shove it so much that nothing worth mentioning of the literal text remains. To point out but one example, I dare you to resolve the contradiction that is the two genealogies of jebus (to be found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, respectively). Oh, and while we're at it, also explain why your gawd supposedly made humans write down any such genealogy at all, when the bible (or better, the wholly babble) clearly says that Mary was impregnated by gawd himself as the holy spook, err, spirit. Face it: If the holy ghost was the father then there was no mortal genealogy of jesus.

Is that enough for the moment? If not, feel free to check out the rest of my little website – see link below.
