That other holy book...

Remember how I made it clear that while I suspect my “anti-christian” points hold true too for other fundamental monotheist religions (AKA morontheisms), but admitted that I don't know much about them and would need to examine them in detail before stating a well-founded opinion?

Well, lo and behold, I started reading the Koran.

This is basically just a short note to let you know, though I plan to expand on this when I have time. So far I read my way up to the 10th sura of the book, and here's what I think so far:

Aside from the totally weird style of the book (the Poetic Edda is already hard to read if you ask many people, but it pales in comparison to the Koran!) I gladly grant this to the Muslims: There are some details in your scripture that are definitely an improvement compared to the Bible. Gee, imagine the look on my face when I found some rules about how divorces and re-marriage are to be handled, while the Bible clearly says “It's for life, whether you like it or not”...

...unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that no one will find much of a problem if he wants to justify atrocities of all kinds against The InfidelsTM with your book.

I honestly can't estimate how often I found the threat “Infidels will burn in Hell!” and the commands to make war against them until there's no one left. Yes, in some verses it's stated that this is only valid as long as Muslims are under attack by Infidels, but sadly, there are many other cases too, without this detail. So while those who say there's nothing but stinking shit to be found in your scripture are clearly wrong, sadly those who claim the polar opposite are just as wrong, and so far it seems to me that the generic tone of the Koran is much more belligerent than that of the Bible indeed.

Before you jump at me, yes I know I have to read the whole thing before I'm qualified to make a good judgment. I will eventually... but I wanted to make it clear that my statement that I want to examine other monotheisms wasn't just an empty claim. I trust you know what I mean.
