Disclaimer – non-literalist believers be sure to read this!
Actually, literalists are welcome to read it too, although of course they won't really get it. Now, this page is meant to make it clear that yes, I know that not all monotheists are fanatical, willfully braindead numbnuts.
In other words, if you are one of those christians (to take that faith as an example, but the message goes out to all monotheists) who admit that not the whole bible can be followed by the letter... if you admit that many things in the bible, if read literally, contradict each other... if you admit that yes, a number of chapters of the bible basically describe things totally incompatible with a deity of love... if you concede that what one does or doesn't do is up to himself and that no book can absolve him from the responsibility for his own actions... then please note that my rantings are not aimed at you. We may not share the same belief, but as long as you let me live I'll do the same. It's those who claim the right to demand that the whole world follows their every command who I take aim at.
To you, ladies and gentlemen of the rational side of religion, I have but one demand to make:
Start to fight the madness!
There is currently – shortly after the “Denmark mohamed cartoon scandal” - much talk about how seriously one can take the more morerate adherents of a certain other faith (yup, I mean islam) when they say that they condemn the fanatical uproar against “the evil western world” when on the other hand their voices can hardly be heard in the islamic world at all. That blade cuts both ways – only that the literalists among you christians aren't screaming their hate propaganda from all the world's rooftops. Yet.
I don't know about you, but if hatemongering willfully-braindead idiots would claim the right to speak for my faith, and all adherents of my faith... while saying things I find just as disgusting as you would... then I would take action, lest the time will come when I will be guilty by association in the eyes of the rest of the world.
So where are the reasonable christians protesting against the dark side of their religion? Where are the public statements condemning christian fundamentalism as totally incompatible with your religion of love? There are some for sure... but just like the moderate muslims currently, the moderate christians can hardly be heard unless one already hopes that they exist and starts looking for them.
There's a war going on out there, and it's a dirty no-rules propaganda war. Yes it's disgusting that people often tend to listen mostly to those who scream the loudest, but if that's the current reality then we all, including you, will have to deal with this reality. Hoping that eventually the masses will get the difference all by themselves is, I'm sorry having to tell you this, wishful thinking.
Fundamentalist christians babble all the time about all the world persecuting them (and see that as a confirmation of their nonsensical dogma, as they reinterpret everything the same way). They aren't right... yet. But the day will come when they will be right because then every sane person will automatically think of idiotic foaming-at-the-mouth fanatics when they hear words like “bible”, “christian”, “Jesus”, et cetera ad nauseam.
You get the message, don't you?
Stand up, and do it today. The fundamentalists aren't your “lead-astray brothers”. They are your enemies, just as they are ours. Treat them as such, for the good of all humanity, regardless of what the people choose to believe or disbelieve.
